Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

6 Alarm Systems (AS) Fire Detection and Evacuation Systems
Includes Beam Imminent Warning issues O & M – Strong impact on the underground activities (beam & non-beam periods) Critical activity: no Evacuation => no access; no BIW => no beam Flammable Gas and ODH Detection Systems Critical activity: no ODH => no access; no flammable gas detection => no physics Red (emergency) Telephones Alarm Transmission CERN Safety Alarm Monitoring – CSAM CERN Hardwired Alarm Monitoring Network – CHAMN Critical activity: no CSAM => no access in the concerned area LHC Exp. SNIFFER Combined fire and gaz air sampling detection Critical activity: If SNIFFER not available, no access in the area New works According to risk analysis and/or HSE spec. Validated by HSE Strong collaboration with Fire Brigade Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

11 Agenda Structure & Activities Key projects in the future
Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

12 SPS Personnel Safety System
Scope Replacement of the obsolete access system For both access control and access safety functions Primary zones Why Reliability; Availability (spare parts) Commitment towards Nuclear Authorities From risk assessment to installation & validation Dismantling 16 Access Points; more than 200 doors Support required from many groups Schedule Installation centered on the LS2 Starting now: specification, tendering, contract, test platform 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 LHC Injectors LS2 LS3 LS1 Run 2 Run 3 Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

13 SPS Fire Safety Improvement
Scope On-going analysis and list of proposal(s) to improve the control of a developed fire in the SPS Sprinklers, confinement, safe evacuation, FB intervention, radiation safe zone Same spirit as for the PS Fire Safety improvements LS1 (PS Ring fire doors) Support from other groups Cooling & Ventilation Civil Engineering Integration 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 LHC Injectors LS2 LS3 LS1 Run 2 Run 3 Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

14 Experimental Areas PSS
Scope Primary zones and Secondary zones is no longer sufficient to define PSS functions The Experimental Areas are today more complex with a large set of risks (higher intensity radiation from beam, sources, laser, etc.) Use functional safety methodology as done for the LHC and PS Starting with Preliminary Risk Analysis, def. of physical barriers, safety functions -> Safety Files Set up a product catalog and test platform to design and validate Exp. Areas PSS Time scale On-going, studies already started, not linked to LS2 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 LHC Injectors LS2 LS3 LS1 Run 2 Run 3 Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

15 Site Access Evolutions
Scope Review the Access Control to the surface buildings & site entrances Part of the physical barriers of a PSS Review the video-surveillance of the CERN sites Plate recognition – mobility & parking Electronic locks for racks Associated services with the access cards bike & car sharing; payments 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 LHC Injectors LS2 LS3 LS1 Run 2 Run 3 Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS

16 Alarm Systems Fire Detection and Evacuation Systems
Our activity depends on the CERN projects Technical galleries Project «Centrale de mise en sécurité incendie» (Fire Safety Central Control) Flammable Gas and ODH Detection Systems Alarm Transmission Internal review of CSAM User Requirements Preparing next generation Spain at CERN – GS/ASE 28th October 2014 EDMS
