Applicants who have not earned a degree, but have extensive professional study or experience, may be considered. Foreign language ability as required by host country and/or project needs Good health

Non U.S. citizens (including permanent residents) Ph.D. degree-holders Previous U.S. Student Fulbright grantees In some instances, dual citizens or applicants currently residing in the country to which they wish to apply (check website country descriptions)

24 U.S. Student Program www.fulbrightonline.org/us Statement of Proposed Research or Study (Full Grants) Two page essay that answers the questions: what, where, how, when, and why Demonstrates knowledge of the field of study Demonstrates awareness of resources in host country Any potential concern about project feasibility or your ability should be addressed directly

25 U.S. Student Program www.fulbrightonline.org/us Statement of Proposed Research or Study (ETA Grant) One to two page essay that explains reasons for applying for a teaching assistantship, applicant’s qualifications and experiences that relate to the overseas assignment. The expected benefits from the assignment and the benefit of the experience upon return to the U.S. and future career goals. Description of a small, supplemental research project (focused on community involvement) Not site-specific Demonstrates sincere desire to teach English to non-native speakers

30 U.S. Student Program www.fulbrightonline.org/us Deadlines Enrolled candidates submit applications to campus committee by campus deadline for review Campus Deadline IIE Application Deadline Sept/Oct October Online submission deadline: Oct 20, Hard copy: Oct 23 Campuses send enrolled students’ applications to IIE at deadline, at-large applicants submit directly to IIE Applications are processed at IIE and sent to National Screening Committee members

William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) Feb-May The presidentially-appointed FSB has final approval of candidates and notifies candidates of selection
