1 Large intestine

2

3 The large intestine is the last part of the digestive system in vertebrate animals. Its function are absorbing water from the remaining indigestible food matter and then passing useless waste material to the body.

4 The large intestine consists of the cecum, rectum and anal canal.

5 CECUM is a pouch, that is considered to be the beginning of the large intestine. It is connected to the ascending colon of the large intestine.

6 APPENDIX It had a digestive role. It is connected to the cecum
It is located in the right lower side of our abdomen. The function of the appendix of assisting in digestion seems to have disappeared in modern humans. 'appendicitis’is a inflammation of the appendix (a lot of people have had their appendix removed)

7

8 RECTUM The rectum is the final straight portion of the large intestine. The human rectum is about 12 centimeters. Last portion of the digestive tract It terminates at the anal canal

9 ANAL CANAL The anal canal is the terminal part of the large intestine.
The anal canal is divided into three parts.

11 What are the main intestinal diseases?

12 Stomach flu: Inflammation of the small intestine
Stomach flu: Inflammation of the small intestine. (Infections from viruses, bacteria) Small intestine cancer: Rarely, cancer may affect the small intestine.  Colitis: Inflammation of the colon. Diarrhea: Stools that are frequent, loose, or watery

13 How do you prevent damage to the intestines?

14 It is best to avoid large meals, eat quickly and also a sedentary lifestyle.

15 what are the main Functions of the large intestine ?

16 The large intestine performs several important functions in digestion
The large intestine performs several important functions in digestion. Its main functions are: Absorbing water: Completing the process of digestion that largely takes place in the small intestine Absorbing vitamins:The large intestine also helps in absorption of vitamins made by bacteria that normally live in the large intestine. Reducing acidity Defending from infections Producing antibodies: The large intestine, particularly the appendix, is a confluence of several lymphoid tissues. These play an important role in immunity.

17 The primary function of the large intestine are:
accumulate residues of the digestive process facilitate the expulsion .

18 Physiology of the large intestine
Reabsorption in the large intestine includes: Water Vitamins – K, biotin, and B5 Organic wastes – urobilinogens and sterobilinogens Bile salts Toxins

19 How long the food stays in the instestines?

20 The duration of the digestion is related to the quantity and quality of the food ingested. An average meal remains in the stomach for about 2-3 hours, remains in the small intestine for further 5-6 hours. Finally it arrives in the large intestine and it stays there for about hours.

21

22 MINI TEST : true or false The large intestine has a digestive function It is composted by four part The appendix has a role in the digestive The rectum is attached to the anal canal Smoking during the meal helps you to avoid a damage of intestine
