5. Budget Battle 2003-04 Over the last two years the CSU’s budget was slashed by half a billion dollars. Teaching and learning suffers as faculty, students, and staff carry the burden of the cuts. Student fees have increased by 63% -- so far. Classes have been cut back drastically. Class size has increased dramatically. Faculty & staff have lost jobs. CSU faculty have had NO general salary increases for two years.

7. The State Budget The bad news: This year the state will have to confront the problems that were avoided in 2004-05. The budget battle for 2005-06 promises to be another life and death struggle. The good news: In the last budget fight hard work by faculty students and staff saved $40 million of CSU funding. We must wage this battle again—stronger, smarter, faster.
