Robotics Project Roadmap Why Developing Modular Robotic Platform? - It would save time and effort: Teams can focus on their project instead of the platform 04042 Non-GPS navigation system - It would yield better results: Technology readily available that offers more than transportation - It will enhance the learning experience through Senior Design Sequence: A great sequence of multidisciplinary projects

Background & Overview RIT Robotics Platform Mission Statement RIT is an institution that prides itself on providing top level engineering education to its undergraduate students. Through Senior Design I and II, the Kate Gleason College of Engineering wishes to strengthen this quality by creating a series of projects that have a central goal. The objective of this project track is to have a robotics platform that is land-based, scalable, with modular open architecture, open source, fully instrumented and remotely controlled for a variety of uses applying to education, research and development, and outreach applications within and beyond the RIT KGCOE.

Robotics Project Roadmap Track Layout and Strategy Project Cooperation: Balance between independence and communication Risk Management: Projects can be shifted in case of incompletion or poor enrollment Resources: Designing with RIT’s potential in mind will create positive connections between departments and students at different levels of their career paths

Robotics Project Roadmap R-Series Projects: Hardware Essentials Prototype Platform’s Documentation Project Documentation Objectives Electro-Mechanical Modules Electronic Modules Passive Modules Drawings Bill of Materials/ Vendor’s List Technical Paper Project Report Demonstration Poster Documentation: Fight loose ends using communication and day-to-day idea recording Identify Objectives: Using FACET to maintain quality and lower effort

Robotics Project Roadmap D-Series Projects: Data Processing & Control Systems This project series seeks to analyze the data from the platform’s different sensors in order to produce information useful for potential users Some of the deliverables are: Data Processing Software: Easy-to-access calculations of wheel position, and velocity according to some of the basic configurations of the platform (three and four wheels) Automation Software: Uses feedback from Data Processing in order to control the machine under circumstances where an automatic response will enhance the platform’s performance Automation and Software Demonstration

Robotics Project Roadmap M-Series Projects: Manufacturing & Production This project series focuses on optimizing the complete hardware and software from a production standpoint. The deliverables include: Create Final Assembly: Including bill of materials, prints and a suggested Materials Processing Lab in which many of the custom parts will be produced by RIT students. Reduce the price: the project includes the reproduction of many platforms and expand the possible configurations.
