2 Kennedy’s Promise. On May 25 th, 1961 President Kennedy made a promise to have a man on the moon by the end of the decade in response to the space race America was in with the Soviet Union. Men on MoonApollo 11KennedySelf Test

4 What did Apollo 11 do? Apollo 11 took off on July 16, 1969, landed on the moon on July 20, and came back to earth on July 24, 1969. The mission collected 21.7 kilograms of moon rocks and traveled 250 meters on the moon’s surface. Eventually landed in the Pacific Ocean after being in space for 195 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds. Apollo 11 was the first mission in where men went to the moon and, and the first time that samples were brought back from another planet. These samples date back 3.7billion years. 6 “One small step for Man, one giant leap for Mankind” Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin exited the Lunar Module Eagle and stepped into the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility. They placed took a few steps and placed the flag of America on the moon to show that America had been there. They were on the moon for 21 hours, 38 mins, and 21 seconds.
