2 EARTH DAY A Cyber Lesson on Recycling By, Linda Parsons

3 Introduction What does recycle mean? What do you do with your old things? Where does all of our trash go? Do you think there is a trash problem? In the story, Recycle Everyday, you will find out what it means to recycle, and what things you may even have at home that can be recycled!

5 Before Reading What I KNOW about the importance of recycling and Earth Day. Work with your partners to make a collage: Look through magazines and cut out pictures of what Earth Day means to you. Have Fun!

6 Before Reading Activity #2 Now that you have created your collage, click on the frog below to learn about recycling, Earth Day and how to be a “Defender of Wildlife” by playing games, reading a story told by a spider, print and color pictures and MUCH more!

7 During Reading As I read the story, complete the story map by clicking on the the words below. Remember to think about what recycling means, and what items the character is learning to recycle. Click Story map to print.

8 After Reading Now that you have heard the story Recycle Everyday, remember the 3 R’s: Reduce: Fix: don’t throw away. Re-use: Use things again and again Recycle: Put in bin to make something we have used into something else. Now click on the Recycle Bin to complete the Venn Diagram. Cut and paste each item and put where you think it belongs.

9 Beyond Reading Write a postcard to a friend encouraging him/her to do their part on Earth day. Is there more we should recycle? click on the postcard, and press to print.
