2 The Problem Many of us are too busy, and often that leads to an unhealthy, deep exhaustion.

3 The Story of Sabbath Rest in the Bible 1) God’s rest in Creation. He blessed the day of rest and made it holy. (Genesis 2:3) 2) God gives the Sabbath to His people to teach them to trust Him.(Exodus 16) 3) The legalist’s distortion. 4) Jesus’ correction. (Mark 2:23-3:5)

4 What Jesus Taught About the Sabbath 1. It is made FOR man. 2. It is right to do GOOD on the Sabbath. It is right to save life on the Sabbath. 3. Jesus is Lord over the Sabbath.

5 Why is Sabbath Rest So Important for Us? 1. We need it for our own well-being. 2. Resets our focus on what really matters: eternal things. 3. It tells the story of our salvation: entering into God’s rest. 4. Sabbath rest is a shadow of the reality that is fulfilled in Christ.

6 The Gift of Sabbath Rest It is deliberate suspension of busy activity in order to fully delight in God, enjoying the blessing of His peace and rest that He has provided. We do this through prayer, thankfulness, joy, worship, relationship with Him, and refocusing on the things that really matter.

7 How to Enjoy the Gift of Sabbath Rest 1. Worship.  Remember God’s rest in Creation.  Remember Christ’s rest in redemption.  Look ahead to our rest in eternal salvation. 2. Do what is GOOD on the Sabbath. Invest in people and relationships. 3. Look up, and breathe deep. Satisfied delight in God and His rest.
