4. Information about Title I
Deer Valley Unified School District has 12 Title I schools. These schools are identified to receive Title I funding based on free and reduced lunch percentages. Schools that have 40% or more of their students receiving free or reduced lunch receive Title I funding.
Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for:

What is a School-wide program?
Purpose:
Comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school
Goal
Ensures that ALL students – particularly those who are low- achieving – meet and exceed levels of achievement on state academic standards.
All Title I schools in Deer Valley are School-wide Programs. This means the Title programs serve all children in a school. All staff, resources, and classes are part of the overall school-wide program. The purpose is to generate high levels of academic achievement in core subject areas for all students, especially those students most in need.

10. Parents, We Need You!
Decades of research show that when parents are involved students have:
Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates
Better school attendance
Increased motivation, better self-esteem
Lower rates of suspension
Decreased use of drugs and alcohol
Fewer instances of violent behavior

When schools encourage children to practice reading at home with parents, the children make significant gains in reading achievement compared to those who only practice at school.
The most consistent predictors of children’s academic achievement and social adjustment are parent expectations of the child’s academic attainment and satisfaction with their child’s education at school.

The CIP is your school’s Continuous Improvement Plan and includes:
A needs assessment and summary of data
Goals and strategies to address academic needs of students
Professional development needs
Coordination of resources/comprehensive budget
The school’s parental involvement plan
You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of this plan.

13. Focus Area for Campus Improvement
100% of students will show an increase in achievement as measureed by the school median growth percentage increasing from 43% to 60% by May 2015.
100% of teachers will participate in semi-monthly instructional strategy grade level meetings with the instructional coach; will participate in monthly goal team meetings; and will participate in staff trainings that provide specific instructional strategies.
80% of parents will attend informational events that include: curriculum nights, math nights, parent teacher conferences, and other informational nights.
100% of staff (certified and classified) will utilize the campus-wide structures for RTI-B as described in the staff handbook, discipline matrix, referral procedures, and positive supports system.

14. Rights of Parents to be Involved
Deer Valley schools are required to set aside 1% of Title I funding for parental involvement. All Title I schools emphasize bringing in parents as academic partners and each school receives funding to further this partnership.
DVUSD has a Title I Parent Engagement Policy and each school has a parent involvement policy and parent/school compact

16. Curriculum AZ College and Career Ready Standards (AZCCRS)
Title I requires research based assessment systems including the use of data based decision, high quality professional development, and the implementation of research-based instructional strategies to ensure the academic achievement of all children.
Title I also requires that instruction be provided by highly qualified staff and that strategies are included to increase parental involvement.

17. Highly Qualified Teachers
All DVUSD Title I schools currently have ALL Highly Qualified Teachers
If a teacher does not meet the Highly Qualified NCLB’s requirements, parents will be notified with a letter

18. Requesting Teacher Qualifications for Your Child’s Teacher
You have the right to request the qualifications of your child’s teacher
The “Right to Review Qualifications” notice is on school and district websites
