copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc2 Hello, How are you doing? Today we are going to begin new lesson on Division.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc3 Related Facts Basic facts using the same numbers. Example: All of these represents a fact family 7 x 3 = 21 3 x 7 = 21 21 ÷ 3 = 7 21 ÷ 7 = 3

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc4 Do all of these represent a fact family. 6 x 4 = 244 x 6 = 24 24 ÷ 6 = 424 ÷ 4 = 6 Answer – Yes, all of these represents a fact family.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc5 Dividing by 6 Repeated Subtraction – Subtract 6 from the given Quotient till 0 is obtained. Example: 24 ÷ 6 24 – 6 = 18 18 – 6 = 12 12 – 6 = 6 6 – 6 = 0 Thus 24 ÷ 6 = 4

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc6 Important Tip If a number is divided by 3, and then divided by 2, that is same as dividing by 6. Example – Dividing by 6, 36 ÷ 6 = 6 Dividing by 3 and then by 2 Dividing by 3, 36 ÷ 3 = 12 Then, Dividing by 2, 12 ÷ 2 = 6 Result is same in both cases.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc7 Use Division Fact Use Division Facts for 3 and 2- The quotient is twice the size in division facts by 3 as they are for division facts by 6. Example – 12 ÷ 6 = 2 12 ÷ 3 = 4

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc8 Dividing by 7 Repeated Subtraction – Subtract 7 from the given Quotient till 0 is obtained. Example: 28 ÷ 7 28 – 7 = 14 14 – 7 = 7 7 – 7 = 0 Thus, 28 ÷ 7 = 4

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc9 Skip Counting (Dividing by 6 and 7) Skip Counting - The number of arcs above the number line gives the Quotient. Example : 30 ÷ 6 0 6 12 18 24 30 Thus, 30 ÷ 6 = 5

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc10 Related multiplication fact (Dividing by 6 and 7) In related multiplication fact the unknown variable can be found by division. Example – Find the value of ε in the given equation 7 x ε = 56 The ε stands for the number that is multiplied by 7 to get 56. Thus, ε = 8

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc11 Find the quotient of 49 ÷ 7 using repeated subtraction Answer- 49 – 7 = 42 42 – 7 = 35 35 – 7 = 28 28 – 7 = 21 21 – 7 = 14 14 – 7 = 7 7 – 7 = 0 Thus, answer- 7

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc12 Divide a) 18 ÷ 6 b) 21 ÷ 7 Answer- a) 3 b) 3

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc13 Find the value of u in 6 x u = 36. Answer- 6

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc14 Teacher has a bag of pens having 24 bags. She gives away 6 pens to each student. How many pens does she give to each of 6 students? Answer- 4

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc15 Choose the numbers divisible by 6. Answer- 12, 24, 60, 42 12 41 17 4260 24

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc17 1.There are 42 students in the class. Teacher divide them in 7 equal groups. How many students are in each group? Answer- 6

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc18 2.Compare using >, < or = a) 36 ÷ 6 42 ÷ 7 b) 35 ÷ 7 30 ÷ 6 Answer- a) = b) =

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc19 3.What number must be multiplied to 7 to get 70? Answer- 10

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc20 4.The winning team scored 63 points. There were 7 players in each team. If each player scored same number of points, how many points did each player score? Answer- 9

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc21 5.Three farmers each have 12 acres of land. They combine their land and then divide it into 6 equal sections. How many acres are in each section? Answer- 6

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc22 6.Which gives smaller quotient? a) Dividing 42 by 6 b) Dividing 42 by 7 c) Dividing 42 by 3 and then by 2 d) All are same

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc23 7.Complete each division sentence. a) 48 ÷ 6 b) 28 ÷ 7 Answer- a) 8 b) 4

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc24 8.Write the related multiplication fact for 30 ÷ 6. Answer- 6 x 5 = 30 5 x 6 = 30

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc25 9.Mrs. Gomez bought 3 bags of rice weighing 4 kg each. She then divided these bags into 6 kg bags. How many 6 kg bags can she make? Answer- 2

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc26 10.Albert plants 54 tree seedlings in 6 rows. Each row has the same number of tree seedlings. How many tree seedlings does Albert plant in each row? Answer- 9

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc27 Good Work! Now, practice Worksheets on the Lesson.
