11. EUMETCast – Africa: status & approach
EUMETCast available over Africa since ~2004
Bandwidth: 2.55Mbps net (3.6 Mbps raw data rate)
Around 250 users, with stations
Types of users:
National meteo services, regional/continental climate services (ICPAC, ACMAD, etc.)
Regional entities, often with training mandates (AGRHYMET, RCMRD, etc.)
MoA, MoE and related national entities, UN branch offices
Fire management services (e.g. AFIS)
Universities and research centers
Private people and private sector (few)
Demand-driven: real policy and user needs
