30 Districts, 176 Taluks, 747 Hoblis. Total geographical area lakh ha. Cultivable area lakh ha (64%). Area under irrigation – lakh ha (33%). Second largest Drought Prone area next to Rajasthan. 10 Agro-climatic Zones with rich crop diversity & 5 major soil types. 76% are SF/MF holdings. Average size of holding 1.55 ha.

5 FORECAST C-MMACS Long Range High Resolution Forecasting of Monsoon, First Outlook- 2015 Date of Onset: June 11, 2015 with uncertainty of two days (early weak onset on 25 May 2015) JUNE-2015 JULY-2015 AUGUST-2015 June expected to be deficient. July expected to be Normal. August expected to be Normal to above Normal (some parts). 5600 Telemetric Rain Gauges have been installed in Gram Panchayat area. Number of Rain Gauges proposed under SUJALA Project – 179.

Contingency Crop plans have been prepared for all the Districts/Zones for the following situations: Normal onset of monsoon followed by immediate prolonged dry spell. Delayed onset of monsoon. Early cessation of rains. Extended monsoon.

State and District Level Contingent crop plans have been prepared in co-ordination with ICAR, CRIDA and SAU’s. Preparation of Hobli-wise Contingency crop plan is in process.

19 “Krishi Bhagya” A special programme to conserve rain water and judiciously use the same for protective irrigation at critical stages. Harvesting of rain water, storage, lifting and efficient use of scarce water and protecting crops during intermittent dry spells. 12800 farm pond excavated and 2000 farm ponds have received water with pre-monsoon showers.
