And what is Eureka Math? What’s in a Module? What differentiates this curriculum from others? A demonstration: A Story of Units  Polynomials

All rights reserved. commoncore.org NYS COMMON CORE MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM A Story of Functions Engage NY Math Modules / Eureka Math Honors the instructional shifts called for by the CCSS Adheres to the intentional focus and coherence Provides a balance of conceptual understanding, application, and procedural fluency Honors both the content and practice standards, capitalizing on meaningful connections between the two Honors the Publishers’ Criteria Brings the progression documents to life

Created FOR the CCSS, as was really intended Created by teachers, for teachers Input from a variety of experts and rigorous external review PK-12 coherence… one continuous story/experience for students, with a finite and intentional choice of models and manipulatives A professional development tool – guidance for teachers in overviews, notes, and sample dialog

6 A Story of Ratios Grades 6 - 8 A Story of Units Grades PK-5 A Story of Functions: Grades 9 - 12

Teacher Materials Lessons Student Outcomes and Lesson Notes (in select lessons) Classwork General directions and guidance, including timing guidance Bulleted discussion points with expected student responses Student classwork with solutions (boxed) Exit Ticket with Solutions Problem Set with Solutions Student Materials Classwork Problem Set

10 Differences in K-5 and 6-12 Structure of Materials K-5 Materials6-12 Materials Lessons have objectivesLessons have titles and student outcomes Provides an in-class problem set and a homework problem set Student materials follow the entire lesson and also provide a homework problem set Every lesson follows the same structure, fluency, application, concept development, debrief Content of the lesson drives the lesson structure: Problem Set, Socratic, Exploration, or Modeling “T” and “S” denote sample dialogSquare bullets (solid and open) denote sample dialog Lessons end with a DebriefLessons end with a Closing
