19 NAMING TYPE 1 IONIC COMPOUNDS The cation is named first as it appears on the periodic table The anion is named second with the root word plus the suffix “ide” Example: KBr K is the cation Br is the anion Based off our rules we would name this as: Potassium Bromide IMPORTANT: The Cation is an Alkai Metal or Alkaline Earth Metal (NOT H)
