2 Parent Survey The website for the 2014-2015 Parent Survey is up and running. You may start using the parent survey at any point during the school year. 3 Parent Survey The parent survey must be completed by parents online on-site at your district with the assistance of district personnel. Paper surveys are not allowed. Distribution of the survey to parents to take home and complete is not allowed. The parent(s) must complete the survey on a computer. March 2015 3

4 Parent Survey It is password protected and you will need to guard that password so that you can guard the integrity of your district parent survey data. We have given you an unpublished URL to help protect your data. Please protect that password. You should disseminate this information to any staff in your district that will be conducting the surveys. March 2015 4

5 Parent Survey Also, the parent should be the one that enters the data on the computer. They may need assistance if they are not computer literate or they have problems reading. This is to protect the integrity of the data and to provide fidelity to the data collection. It's your data and you want to protect your data and your survey results, and as with all data, you have to put your own security parameters around it. March 20155

6 Parent Survey If you give that unpublished URL to parents (instead of having the machines at the schools set up for the survey entry), then you stand the chance that the parent will share the URL or if you have a parent or anyone else that is upset with your district, there is nothing to stop them from completing the survey over and over because there is no one there making sure that they do it only once. 7 Parent Survey Each district can decide when is best to ask parents to complete the online survey. MDE did indicate to OSEP that it would mainly be used annually at the end of the IEP Meeting or at an Open House, parents would be assisted as needed by school personnel (probably teacher assistants), and parents would be using computers at school, not at home. 8 Parent Survey When the parent logs into the online survey, they will see a screen that requests their School District's Name. They will select the name from a drop down box. Click Continue. Using drop-down boxes, we will collect some demographic data for each student: Gender, Age, Race, Grade, and Primary Disability. Click Continue. Be sure that your parent knows their child's primary disability. The last page takes the parent to a 10 question survey. They will respond to each question with Yes, No, or NA (if the question does not apply to them). March 2015 8

9 Parent Survey NOTE - the survey will not allow you to go from page to page unless you select something for EACH data field you see on the page (including all 10 survey questions). Parents should complete a survey for each child if they have more than one child with disabilities. Districts should not complete a survey to view the screens. This will cause your data to be skewed. Only parents should complete the survey. March 2015 9

10 BDI-2 Screening at Entry and Exit Beginning with School Year 2013-2014, children will be assessed upon entry and exit in the early childhood program. This includes students with disabilities ages 3-5, regardless of grade level of enrollment. March 2015 10

13 BDI-2 Children should be given the screener and not the full assessment. The Exit screener must be given before the child turns 6 years old. Screeners that are given to children after they turn 6 will not be counted in the results for Indicator 7. March 201513

14 BDI-2 There needs to be at least 6 months in between the Entry and Exit screeners. If a child enters the early childhood program within 6 months of their 6 th birthday, you are not required to administer the screener at Entry and Exit. March 201514

15 BDI-2 Once a screener is given, the data should be entered in the BDI-2 Data Manager website https://www.bdi2datamanager.com/default.as px. Please contact MDE OSE if you need assistance with user account information. 16 BDI-2 For each Entry and Exit screener entered in BDI-2 Data Manager, click on the Program Note link and select “Entry” or “Exit” in the “Program Note 2” drop-down field. Riverside will not look at any other Program Note fields when pulling data for Indicator 7. March 201516

18 BDI-2 MSIS IDs in BDI-2 Data Manager Also make sure to enter MSIS IDs in the Child ID field to help track students for multiple years. Inform MDE OSE when students transfer to another district. When adding a new child or assessing an existing child, enter the MSIS ID. To add the MSIS ID for an existing child, click the “Edit” button next to the child’s name in the BDI-2 Data Manager under the View Roster or Search Child menu. March 201518

21 BDI-2 To run a report in PDF format, select the Group Reports option from the menu. March 201521

22 BDI-2 Select your district name (it must be highlighted), select Screener Roster Report, and click Go to Report Criteria. March 201522

23 BDI-2 Enter the date range (For a schoolyear, enter July 1st to June 30th), select a standard deviation, enter your email address, and click Schedule Report. March 201523

24 BDI-2 You will receive an email when the report is complete. To retrieve the report, go to the Scheduled Queue page in the Import/Export menu. When the report is ready, click the blue down arrow to download the report. The report will be in a.zip file. You will need a program that opens.zip files, such as WinZip, to open the report.
