A Look at the Daily 5 During the Reading Intervention Block

2 What is the ? A structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently The Daily 5 areas stay consistent so students can grow in their own learning

3 Why Use the ? Based on surveys and Team Leader input, Reading Explorations would benefit from a more structured framework The Daily 5 will provide students with a framework for meaningful independent work and focused teacher time

4 How will I Group My Students?
Teachers will divide students into groups of 4-6 forming “A B C D E groups” Teachers will use the following data to place students in groups: Fresh Reads MAP scores Groups are fluid, flexible, and should be rearranged based on student needs.

Teachers . . Deliver more whole group mini- lessons Teach Tier I guided reading groups based on data Conference individually with readers/writers Hold students accountable for spending more time in text Utilize data to guide literacy instruction Students . . . Engaged with reading and writing on a daily basis for a maximum amount of time Receive explicit instruction in whole & small groups and on an individual basis Build stamina and maintain independence in completing literacy activities Self-monitor own behaviors
