G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20041 Construction/Refurbishment Of The Tracker Prototype Contents:- Welcome Back Plans Layout Things to be addressed New Schematic Conclusions

G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20042 Welcome Back This is a reminder of the layout of the prototype tracker that was built for FermiLab. As we speak it is somewhere in the UK and we hope soon it will be in the safety of the assembly area at Imperial.

G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20043 Plans The plan is to carefully dismantle the detector and store the component parts as these will be required for the Kek Prototype. During the dismantling we will investigate a couple of anomalies that were discovered during the cosmic ray tests at FermiLab. It is then planned to reconstruct the three stations, along with the fourth station onto a new support structure which will be held inside a carbon fibre container. The whole structure will be self contained and have built in brackets to fix it to a supporting frame inside the solenoid.

G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20044 Layout This is the layout that is proposed for the testbeam. The spacing is – 10cm, 15cm and 20cm.

G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20045 Things To Be Addressed Due to the use of as many existing parts as possible it will be necessary to ‘lose’ a certain amount of the internal light guide length in a safe manner. A new patch panel will be required to accommodate the fourth station, this station will have the new larger connectors A new container will need to be made to accommodate the 4 stations and will include supports for fixing in the solenoid

G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20046 New schematic The new prototype layout shows the original stations in red and the new station in blue. The new station possition is dictated by the connectors being (we hope) easier to fit. The main carbon fibre body already exists in Liverpool, as do the flanges. We Just need to decide the length and they can be assembled, The larger diameter will need to be manufactured and a decision taken as to what material to use.

G.Barber Mice@Ral 28 Oct 20047 Conclusion It is hoped that we will have enough time to test the assembly and alignment techniques we hope to use on the final trackers during the assembly of this detector It will incorporate both old and new connector schemes and will help us to evaluate them both It will give the opportunity to try out the QA systems in a real production environment as opposed to a lab sample.
