CheezStix! EE 396 Micromouse Spring 2007 Preliminary Design Review

Members  Toy Lim – Project Manager  Kyle Montpas – Software Leader  Tyson Kikugawa – Hardware Leader

Overview  Design and build an autonomous robotic mouse to find its way to the center of a maze as fast as possible

System Block Diagram Rabbit µP RCM 2020 Drive H-Bridge Driver IC BipolarMotors Sense Top-DownSensors SideSensors ADC ‘04 Power LiPoBatteries 5.1V DC-DC Converter Li+Charger FT232 PC USBRS232RS232Emulator Dynamic C ProgrammingCable ACAdapter CheezStix! µMouse 4.096V V REF

Sensors  Top-down Sensors  Side Sensors  A/D Converter  Testing to determine implementation  Placement  Coding with Movement

Top-Down Sensor  QRD1114 Reflective Object Sensor

Possible Placement  Two sensors on each side  One on the front and back  Testing to determine physical geometry to allow turning without losing orientation

Side Sensor  Sharp Distance Sensor (GP2Y0A21YK)

A/D Converter  Sensor output – analog (voltage), depending on distance  Rabbit reads in digital  Sensor --/--> Rabbit

Possible Placement  Two sensors in front and back of mouse  Angled to account for the distance limits  Can determine distance after A/D conversion

To Do List  Test Motor Torque with Prototype structure  Complete acquisition of parts  Design PCBs  Complete final structure  Develop code  Test and Debug

Expected Problems  Time! TIME!!!  Developing/Fabrication of structure  Programming/Debugging  USB Charging too slow?  Motor torque  Sensors – use and implementation

Revised Schedule March 4 - 10 March 11 - 17 March 18 - 24 March 25 - 31 April 1 - 7 April 8 - 14 April 15 - 21 April 22 - 28 Order Parts Design Circuits Order PCBs Make Final Structure Construct Mouse Program Debug/ Fine Tune

Deliverable Goals  Have a working mouse  Be able to find the center of the maze  Compete in Mini-Competition – May 5
