26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Man is a multi-part being – body, soul, spirit
The Christian also has the Holy Spirit dwelling in them.

4. Romans 8:26 When we are in pain (physical, emotional, or spiritual)
We don't know WHAT to pray for
We don't know HOW to pray
We can only groan and sigh
Our spirit takes our groans and intercedes for us

5. Romans 8:26 NOTE : This is not the Holy Spirit because :
1 – This spirit can not express itself in words.
2 – However, the Holy Spirit can speak expressly. (2 Timothy 4:1)
3 – Notice WHO is groaning – fleshly self
4 – Who is interceding ? Our spirit
5 – How does our spirit do this ? See the next verse.

27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
1 – Our spirit searches our heart
2 – Our spirit knows our mind
3 – Our spirit makes intercession for our body in pain and anguish

Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Romans 8:34
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 1 Timothy 2:5
Jesus is the ONLY mediator. The Holy Spirit is not involved in intercession and prayer.

The context of the two verses indicates clearly that the groaning is done by the sprit of the one who is praying. The word “groanings” indicates yearning – our own sprit groans with yearning which we cannot utter, which we cannot make vocal, or put into words. :

a) Sodium and Chloride (both poisons) – put together – table salt
b) Hydrogen (explosive gas) and Oxygen (needed for explosion or fire) – put together – water to put out fires

NOT : What I like, brings me pleasure
BUT : What glorifies God, pleases God, brings us to God
TEST : Is _______ good ?
Promotion ; Fishing ; Heart attack ; Cancer ; House fire
What will result in your being closer to God ? What may cause you to be farther away ?

13. Romans 8:28
To Them - - -
Who love God – seek God's will, strive to be closer to God
Called according to His purpose – not our own ambition or desire

14. Conclusion 2 Spirits are in the Christian 1 – The human spirit (soul)

We groan – our spirit understands and intercedes for us
