2 2 Who is Climate Focus? Team committed to finding unique and creative solutions to climate change. Head Offices in Amsterdam and Washington DC. Focus areas include: Climate law & policy and law, land use and REDD+, emissions trading

3 3 REDD+ has gathered increased attention (BAP, Copenhagen Accord, Cancun Agreements) COP 16 approved phased approach: national strategy, national reference levels, results-based actions Ongoing work on reference levels, MRV and the structure of a future mechanism Voluntary action (VCS) and modest funding available International Support for REDD+

4 4 Uncertain regulatory environment (domestic and international) National barriers for implementation No UNFCCC mechanism operating No REDD+ credits offered (yet) in compliance markets Limited demand in voluntary markets Challenges for REDD+
