(„Folkwang“ name comes from Norse mythology – Hall of Freya = Germanic goddess for love and beauty) Folkwang Museum and schools were founded - Music, Dance, Speec and 1907 Essen school for Arts and Crafts – reopening 1948 at the former Benedictine Abbey of Essen Werden (south of Essen) 1972 integration of Design faculty into University of Essen (north), later merged to University of Duisburg-Essen (30,000 students) – back to the roots in 2008
