5 3. Reading One The Friendship Page Is Three Years Old What do you think the passage will be about? Did Bronwyn start The Friendship Page to make new friends? Do social service organizations help her?

6 4. Reading Two Friendship Quotes Do you know of any quotes (the exact words of a famous person) related to friendship? Which quotes go against the ideas expressed in Reading One?

7 5. Reviewing Language Nouns: Ns describe – a person: woman, student, Hanouf… – something: car, chair…. –a place: school, university –Idea: happiness, sadness, idea, suggestion…

8 5. Reviewing Language Adjectives: Tell something about a noun. –A tall woman –A black cat Verbs: they show –Action: speak, walk, like.. –Being: be, become.

10 6. Skills for Expression A. Questions with Be 1. Yes/No Questions: Be + Subject: –Is (Be) The Friendship Page (Subject) a website? Short answer: Yes, it is. DO NOT use Contractions in Short answers with Yes: –Yes, you are. (√) –Yes, you’re (X).

11 A. Questions with Be You can use contractions in short answers with “NO” in 2 ways: –No, you aren’t. –No, you’re not.

12 6. Skills for Expression A. Questions with Be 2. Wh. Questions: Use –Wh- question word + Be + Subject Who is Bronwyn Polson? What is your name? When did she leave? Where are they from?

13 6. Skills for Expression B. Style The Sentence: –Must have a Subject + Verb Bronwyn (Subject) is (Verb) a university student – group of words that expresses an idea. –Begins with a CAPITAL letter: The website offers advice.

14 6. Skills for Expression B. Style Use a period at the end of a sentence: –The Friendship Page has fun information. (Period) Use a question mark at the end of a question: –Are you happy ? Use an exclamation mark at the end of a sentence with a strong feeling: –The Friendship Page is three years old !
