NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Context There are major differences in standards and technologies in the Newly Associated States (NAS). In each country the requirements; legislation, building design, construction practice, culture and climate are different

NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Context There are major differences in: building industry characteristics building industry characteristics energy market requirements energy market requirements

NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Objectives NAS-EnerBuild will extend the existing EnerBuild RTD Thematic Network to the Newly Associated States. A diverse series of measures will: Target markets in Central and Eastern Europe and study their requirements Target markets in Central and Eastern Europe and study their requirements

NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Objectives To raise awareness and promote NAS participation in the EC programmes on building-related energy research To raise awareness and promote NAS participation in the EC programmes on building-related energy research To assist the NAS in the process of upgrading their construction industry, to a comparable level of competitiveness to other EU Member States, prior to entry into the European Union To assist the NAS in the process of upgrading their construction industry, to a comparable level of competitiveness to other EU Member States, prior to entry into the European Union

NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Objectives To address non-technical barriers to the take-up of research results To address non-technical barriers to the take-up of research results To examine the characteristics of the expanded EU market, technological, economic, social and educational dimensions, as it relates to building energy research To examine the characteristics of the expanded EU market, technological, economic, social and educational dimensions, as it relates to building energy research

NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Objectives To identify potential target market sectors on the basis of potential benefits To identify potential target market sectors on the basis of potential benefits To develop and regularly update a joint RTD strategy aimed at achieving the Network objectives and to identify the need for new RTD activities and studies To develop and regularly update a joint RTD strategy aimed at achieving the Network objectives and to identify the need for new RTD activities and studies

NAS ENERBUILD RTD - Objectives Identify the most appropriate technologies for NAS markets Identify the most appropriate technologies for NAS markets Identify and implement coherent technology transfer and promotion strategies appropriate to NAS market needs Identify and implement coherent technology transfer and promotion strategies appropriate to NAS market needs

Members Brno University of Technology Dr Jiri Sedlak The University has facilities for experimental measurement and analysis of hygro-thermal and energy properties of building materials and components. Research focuses on investigation of the building envelope, structure and internal climate conditions in low-energy solar and passive solar buildings.

Members Centre for Energy Efficiency, Sofia Dr Zdravko Genchev EnEffect undertakes energy conservation demonstration project and promotes the introduction of efficient technologies. The demonstration projects cover a wide range of buildings, including hospitals, schools, industrial and residental buildings.

Members Czech Technical University, Prague Professor Frantisek Drkal The Department of Environmental Engineering is involved in computer modeling and simulation of HVAC systems and co- ordinates an INCO-Copernicus task: Validation of CFD developments using an experimental room. They had developed the TRY climate database for Prague.

Members Intertermo Concept Ltd, Bucharest Mr Catalin Flueraru Intertermo led a pilot energy conservation project in a 1926 municipal building in Bucharest. Following the application of energy conservation measures (improving of the heating systems, energy management and reducing ventilation, etc) the performance improvements were analysed.

Members Warsaw University of Technology Dr Stanislaw Pietruszko The Photovoltaics centre promotes the widespread use of PV in Poland. The Centre serves as a focal point which conducts and stimulates research and demonstration activities. It organises education for students, workshops, conferences, etc.

Members Institute of Physical Energetics LAS, Riga Dr Peteris Shipkovs The Institute, which has developed the FRES model, undertakes research in renewable energy, combined energy supply systems, energy efficiency and energy conservation. It was also involved in the THERMIE training course: ‘Solar Water Heating’.

Members Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava Mr Jozef Hraska The Department of Building Science carries out broadly-based research and develops and uses computer- based simulation tools, including ESP-r, Radiance, Fluent, etc. The work focuses on advanced low- energy technologies, materials and constructions (such as double facades) with respect to thermal, visual and acoustic comfort in buildings.

Members Black Sea Regional Energy Centre and Technical University of Sofia Dr Lulin Radulov and Dr. N. Kalojanov BSREC promotes the development and implementation of market-oriented energy policy. It has collaborated with the Technical University of Sofia on many successful projects, including: energy audits, heating and ventilation design, economic evaluation of energy options, energy performance monitoring.

Members Institute of Heating and Sanitary Technology, Radom Dr Purgal Pawel The Institute conducts research, develops standards and applications in the field of energy efficient and environmentally friendly systems, such as heating boilers, heat conservation in buildings, central heating installations. The Institute is involved in several economic transformation and job creation initiatives in Poland.
