9 International Energy Agency Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme - ECBCS Annex 55 (2009-2013) – Reliability of Energy Efficient Building Retrofitting: Probability Assessment of Performance & Cost Research Objectives: Develop knowledge and tools that support the use of probability based design strategies in retrofitting of buildings to ensure that the anticipated energy benefits can be realized Give reliable information about the true outcome of retrofitting measures regarding energy use, cost and functional performance Apply and demonstrate probabilistic methodology on at least five real life case studies, with a focus on residential buildings

10 International Energy Agency Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme - ECBCS Annex 56 (2010-2014) – Cost Effective Energy & CO 2 Emissions Optimization in Building Renovation Research Objectives: Enable economically and technically optimised building refurbishment as a contribution to the improvement of the existing building stock to mitigate climate change Develop a methodology to establish a new standard - This will take into account both energy efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emission reductions, such as the use of renewable energy sources Derive clear target values using the methodology that are suitable to serve private entities, agencies and governments Promote energy and greenhouse gas optimised building renovation by means of subsidies or mandatory measures based on the standard

11 International Energy Agency Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme - ECBCS Annex 57 (2011-2015) – Evaluating the Overall CO 2 Emissions due to Buildings & the Building Construction Industry Research Objectives: Collect existing research results concerning embodied energy and CO 2 emissions due to building construction, to analyze them and to summarize into the state of the art Develop guidelines of the methods for evaluating the embodied energy and CO 2 emissions due to building construction Develop guidelines of the measures to design and construct buildings with less embodied energy and CO 2 emissions

12 International Energy Agency Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme - ECBCS Annex 58 (2011-2015) – Reliable Building Energy Performance Characterisation Based on Full Scale Dynamic Measurements Research Objectives: Develop common quality procedures for dynamic full scale testing to come to a better performance analysis Develop models to characterise and predict the effective thermal performances of building components and whole buildings

13 International Energy Agency Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme - ECBCS Annex 59 (2011- ) – Minimizing Temperature Differences in HVAC Systems for High Energy Efficiency in Buildings Research Objectives: Establish a methodology for analysis of the thermal environment system from the perspective of reducing mixture and transfer losses Develop a new concept for temperature and humidity independent control systems Research radiant terminals and the direction of efficient HVAC systems for large building spaces
