7 It’s Just Good Business $200 + $25 per month Mashavu costs schools orphanages community centers entrepreneurs clinics patients pay $1 per consultation return on investment in 12 months

8 Some Things to Consider How will your company make a profit (which can be no profit no loss but cannot be at a loss - not a very sustainable company) sustain itself? How will the users pay for the cooking system and the fuel - Does it make economic sense to do that? / Why should they buy your product? How will you scale up? Is there an adequate market? Who is your first customer? What does it cost to manufacture the cooking system? who will manufacture the system? who will buy the system? how much will they pay for it? how will they pay for it? (e.g. story about a company that manufactured and sells solar lanterns in india. They asked a woman if she would pay 300 indian rupees a month and she said she could not afford it. Few weeks down, they asked her if she could pay 10 rupees a month - she said certainly!) Consider alternate forms of equity? e.g. Can the customers provide sweat equity to "manufacture" the cooking system? (point out habitat for humanity) what is your "addressable" market size? how / why is your solution better than other approaches/products on the market? how will you scale up your business and reach more people? what is the return on investment? What does it cost to maintain the system? will the users be able to maintain it themselves? what kind of education will they need? How will you educate them? What happpens when the cooking system breaks? Who will fix the system? What kind of consumable/fuel does the cooking system use? Is the fuel easily available? (related issue is environmental issues) Where will the consumers buy it? Can you set up a small business for the fuel? related issue: pick fuel/cooking system that optimizes the calorific value of the fuel

9 Some Things to Consider Who is your first customer? How will or how will people pay for your product? What other forms of equity can be contributed? Who is your competition? What is your competitive advantage? Who will fix it? Can you minimize/recycle consumables?
