1 Annotated Bibliography of Relevant Journals for Possible Publication of Advocate and Communication Research Samantha Munday, Carolyn LaPlante, Sandi Smith, Chuck Atkin Michigan State University IntroductionIntroduction Dissemination of information found during research is paramount. Finding the journal which best addresses a given target audience for the results of a study is a critical part of this process. The objective of this research was to help breast cancer advocates and communication researchers find the right journals in which to submit their work for publication. Two searches were completed in the search engine WorldCats. One search used the keywords “breast cancer communication” and the second used the keywords “breast cancer media.” From these two searches, articles of interest and the journals they were from were composed into a document. Each article, along with the journal it was from, was placed into four non-mutually exclusive categories to describe the type(s) of communication they addressed; mass media, new media, interpersonal, and/or doctor-patient. After the search, two more journals were added to the list upon the advice of other experts in the medical and dietetic fields. Then each journal’s style format, purpose, audience, author types, communication type(s), space limitations, and a link to their submission guidelines for authors were also collected into the document. A total of 30 possible journals for breast cancer advocacy and communication research were documented in this way and included in an annotated bibliography. Five of the journals researched are highlighted here, but all are included in the handout available from the researchers and online at http://bcerc.msu.edu/.
