2 Context Children should know about their rights as they mature. Sixth Grade Classroom Starting global ending local.

3 Objectives 1.Analyze and evaluate children’s rights in the United States and around the world. 2.Identify appropriate and relevant reference materials. 3.Compare differences between international policy and state policy drafting in relation to children’s rights.

4 Objectives cont. 4.Children will draw connections from their own experiences to children’s rights. 5.Students will develop mapping and charting skills. 6.Students will develop a broader visual awareness.

5 The Week at a Glance Monday Tuesday Wednesday ThursdayFriday  The U.N. & the CRC  “Is it a Right?” worksheet  Research with different media  Maps, Charts, and Graphs  Groups share their findings  DCF introduction  Start analysis of KidCare quarterly report.  Prepare for “Press Conference”  Kidcare and the Safe Harbor Project Analysis  Tour of the Capitol  “Press Conference” with commissioner Darlene Dunbar of DCF

6 Days One: Is it a Right UN and CRC introduction Class activity: Filling out the U.S portion of “Is It a Right?” worksheet. Group work: Fill out assigned country portion.

7 Day 2 Statistical Analysis Graphs, Maps, and Charts Share and Compare

8 Evaluation Monday: What are your goals in life? What will you need in order to attain these goals? Tuesday: Each and every person can make a difference in the world. What changes would you make if you had the right to make a difference in your assigned country?
