2 Aims of the presentation To discuss the process of designing an academic skills course for Pre Registration nurses in terms of: decisions when agreeing the course design deciding on a mode of delivery measuring success

3 Curriculum design Choices: separate integrated semi integrated models of delivery

4 Assumptions underpinning the models Separate: designed to support non traditional learners, that is mixed in terms of age, cultural and linguistic background etc. Integrated: HE is a complex social and cognitive process of discovering and mastering and ALL students benefit from learning this

5 Our analysis All student will benefitAll student will benefit Some will require more guidance and practice than others Conversely more able students need to be challenged and motivated

8 Challenges of such design developing a growing awareness of self as learner communicating th expectation of University in a supportive way avoiding 'overwhelming' the student as opposed to supporting them.
