2 World and the Environment General objectives: Students will be able to do a survey to compare the environment of different countries Students will be able to fill in a map according to the environment features Students will be able to write a short report about China and its environment Students will be able to participate in a debate on environmental protection

3 Lesson one Doing a survey Step 1. Students read passages about environment of different countries Step 2. Students ask teacher for the meaning of unfamiliar words and expressions Step 3. Students are divided into several groups and each group gets a work sheet Step 4. Students prepare the work sheet for reporting Step 5. Students sharing the conclusion by reporting with the class

4 Lesson Two Filling a map Step 1. Students observe a map given by the teacher Step 2. Students answer the questions about the map Step 3. Students watch the map again and tell the different environment of each countries Step 4. Students will be divided into groups and fill in the map

5 Lesson Three Writing a short report Step 1. Teacher prepares students a short report about America and its environment and explains the unfamiliar vocabulary for students Step 2. Students hear the dictation twice, the first time they listen only, the second time they take down notes which will assist them in writing a report Step 3. At the conclusion of the dictation, students produce their version the report Step 4. Students compare their versions with the tape Step 5. Students discuss what are the strong points and which are weak points Step 6. Students write a short report on China and its environment

6 Lesson Four Debate Step 1. Students read passages about pollution Step 2. Students ask teacher the meaning of unfamiliar words and phrases Step 3. Students answer the question about the passage Step 4. Students learn the rules and regulations of a debate Step 5. Students participate in a debate on environmental protection
