2. History of Halloween In the 1800’s, during the Festival of Samhain, the Celtics believed the souls of the dead visit earth on October 31 st. In Europe, All Hallows Eve was the night before All Saints Day, the day all saints who did not have their own declared holiday were celebrated. All Souls’ Day is when Christians would celebrate the death of those who were not saints. In Mexico, El Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is celebrated in honor of loved ones who have died.
