1 Chapter 63 Carbohydrates

2 Purpose In this experiment, unknown carbohydrates (fructose, glucose, maltose, lactose) will be identified using two classification tests. To distinguish between aldehydo- and ketosugars sensitive red tetrazolium (RT) test is employed. If the RT test is positive, Barfoed’s test allows to distinguish between mono- and disaccharidesIn this experiment, unknown carbohydrates (fructose, glucose, maltose, lactose) will be identified using two classification tests.
