3 Where We Started

4 D3 provided high-level block diagrams to detail specifications. Specifications call for external ports: – 2 x CameraLink (LVDS) – 2 x GigE – 2 x D3 – Sync – Serial (RS232) – Power in (9-36V)

5 Things to Consider Q: Is this just a glorified, unified wiring system, or does it do something else? – Will include some IC's that might otherwise be on the main, FPGA board. Q: Do all of these ports need to be on a circuit board? – Probably not. Some may attach to the enclosure separately, with individual data buses to the FPGA board. Q: Is there anything else that needs an I/O port? – After initially considering a design with only one enclosure, a multi-enclosure concept was struck upon. The Inertial Navigation System (INS) will be housed separately, so a port for it will be necessary. Additionally, a Serial ATA (SATA) port will be included to facilitate removable external storage. Q: How will data be transferred from the connector board to the FPGA board and vice- versa? – A ribbon cable will carry the actual data signals. The FPGA will only understand the D3 camera interface, so the other camera ports (CameraLink & GigE) will be adapted to that format by chips on the connector board.
