2 LWC (z) and LWP Droplet size spectrum (z) Macrophysical properties (base & top height, fraction) Cloud microphysics Aerosol properties (esp CCN) Dynamics Thermodynamics Aerosol properties (CCN, number concentration, size distribution, chemical composition, etc) Vertical velocity Temperature and humidity profiles (inside and outside cloud) Instruments: Doppler cloud radar (35 or 95 GHz, with spectra) Raman lidar (water vapor and aerosol) Doppler lidar Microwave radiometer “Rain” radar (X, K, or S, etc., with spectra) -- vertical Wind profiler Frequent radiosondes In situ aerosol microphysics In situ cloud microphysics

3 ACM WG Focus will be on 2 Supersites S1 has all of the required measurements S2 is close: –Request that a microwave radiometer (perhaps from UK or from Potenza) be located there –Needs a cloud radar; perhaps the UHH radar currently listed at the S3 site? Request that one of the UK Doppler lidars be placed at S2, the other on the Hornisgrinde Possibility of in-situ aerosol observations (esp CCN spectra) on the Hornisgride? Chemical composition measurements from UK considered important BAE-146 in-situ observations will be critical –Flight pattern includes legs in the aerosol layer below cloud and multiple penetrations at different altitudes in the cloud Would like to have one ACM representative in the operations center for daily planning
