3 Born on August 4, 1961 in Hawaii His mother : Ann Dunham, a white American from Kansas His father : Barack Obama, Sr., a black man in Kenya. Raised by a single mother and grandparents from rural Kansas. Growth History of Obama

4 Grew up with an “international upbringing”, four years spent living in Indonesia after his mother remarried. He used to tell his mom that he wanted to be president of the United States someday. Growth History of Obama

5 Later, He returned to Honolulu( 檀香山 ) and graduated from high school in 1979. He then transferred to New York City, where he graduated from Columbia University in 1983.

6 In 1985, Obama moved to Chicago, where he became a community organizer with a church- based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods. Growth History of Obama

7 In 1991, he went on to earn his law degree from Harvard, where he became the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. Soon after, he turned down lucrative job returned to Chicago to practice as a civil rights lawyer and teach constitutional law. Growth History of Obama

8 In1996 , Obama started his political career, he run for the Illinois State Senate, then gained bipartisan ( 两党的 ) support to help working families get ahead. In 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address and became the Democratic Party's brightest new star. Growth History of Obama

9 On February 10, 2007, Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States. On June 7,2008, after the tough contest with Senator Hillary Clinton, Obama passed the threshold to become the Democratic nominee.

12 The Embodiment of American Dream In a short period of 12 years(1996-2008), Obama has changed from a “Nobody” to a “President”. USA is a country where"all things are possible" with hard work, sacrifice and perseverance, and where anyone can grow up to be president.

13 The Embodiment of American Dream Obama is a leader, educated, erudite( 博学的 ), charismatic (有魅力的). His life story, while far from typical, represents the realization of the American dream.

14 Dream in the past It is no doubt that Obama's win is a milestone in the US' racial and cultural evolution. It is 45 years since Martin Luther King, in the greatest speeches. looked forward to the day when his children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

21 3. Time For a Big Change America is disenchanted with the current administration, unhappy about the war, and struggling due to the subprime crisis. It is necessary for a big change. Barack Obama took use of this chance to run for the president.

22 4. Have a Clear and Consistent Message Barack Obama's message has consistently been about "Change" and "Hope". These two words have been consistently used through out his campaign.

27 Summing up He went thought an unusual growth history. He is deemed as the excellent embodiment of American Dream. His creativity and consistency made him gain the far-ranging supports. He used his own experiences to show the encouraging creed, Yes we can !
