EGAN FEE synergy Working Group PROMETEO Workshop on Front-End Electronics for gamma and complementary detector systems 17-18 November 2011I IFIC – Valencia (Spain)

Coordination and synergy-building in the European Complementary Detectors community EGAN network tasks in the new ENSAR proposal PROMETEO Workshop on Front-End Electronics for gamma and complementary detector systems 17-18 November 2011I IFIC – Valencia (Spain)

A bit of history: The Ancillary / Complementary detector community was one of the first to have a coordination group and EU funds for coordination and synergy building during EUROBALL period. 1994 – 1996 Conveners: Arne Johson and Örjan Skeppstedt Early meetings to create synergies among groups designing ancillary detectors for EUROBALL 1996 – 2003 Convener: Hubert Grawe Publication of the EUROBALL Ancillary Detectors booklet 2003 – 2004 Convener: Andres Gadea  Several Ancillary detectors included in the GammaPool Inside the AGATA project: 2003 – 2010 W.G. Chairperson Andres Gadea 2010 – present W.G. Chairperson Enrico Farnea PROMETEO Workshop on Front-End Electronics for gamma and complementary detector systems 17-18 November 2011I IFIC – Valencia (Spain)

Current situation New RIB facilities require the development of experimental techniques and detectors design and construction or upgrade of complementary instrumentation Synergy building and coordination in the community is essential and EGAN is an appropriate forum to create synergies among the groups developing complementary instrumentation Several arrays are active in our community (AGATA, EXOGAM, MINIBALL, GammaPool ones, etc … and their scientific production is mainly due to their coupling with ancillary detectors New large Ge  -arrays are being build (AGATA) or upgraded (EXOGAM2) and several others are active in our community (also those related to the GammaPool (GALILEO)) PROMETEO Workshop on Front-End Electronics for gamma and complementary detector systems 17-18 November 2011I IFIC – Valencia (Spain)

Purpose: ensure the maximum compatibility and versatility minimizing the impact of ancillary detectors on the performances of large Ge arrays coordination in the construction and upgrade of ancillary devices will allow: – the integration of the data acquisition and electronics, – the integration of the mechanics (mechanical design compatibility) – collaboration on the Monte-Carlo simulations of the physics cases. 6 EGAN (ENSAR) TASK 2: Coordination on Ancillary Instrumentation Subtasks as activity of Working Groups Subtask 1: Activity of WG1: Co-operation on the use, design and construction of ancillary detectors to improve the performance and compatibility of the devices. Subtask 2: Activity of WG2: Co-operation on designing and building the electronics and data acquisition and on the mechanical integration. Subtask 3: Activity of WG3: Exchange of information on the development of simulation tools. PROMETEO Workshop on Front-End Electronics for gamma and complementary detector systems 17-18 November 2011I IFIC – Valencia (Spain)

Idea behind the subtasks: 1) exchange of information between the groups involved in the design and construction of ancillary detectors: to optimize the use of present resources and to improve the performance and compatibility of devices presently in the R&D phase. 2) exchange of information between groups responsible of the electronics, data acquisition coordination for the construction of common component. Exchange of information for mechanical integration and mechanical compatibility. 3) exchange of information between groups working on the development of simulation tools for the optimization of the detector design. 17 On behalf of the European Gamma and Ancillary Detector Network, I would like to invite PhD students and young researchers to attend the EGAN school to be held at the University of Liverpool from 5th to 9th December 2011. The aim of the school is to provide training and hands on experience in the use of state of the art gamma-ray detector systems. The workshop will focus on the use of highly segmented germanium detector systems, pulse shape analysis and the analysis of data from the AGATA spectrometer Next EGAN Working Group Meeting: Together with the EGAN Workshop next year Thank you PROMETEO Workshop on Front-End Electronics for gamma and complementary detector systems 17-18 November 2011I IFIC – Valencia (Spain)
