Voorstelling van project: Delenasaw Yewhalaw Meeting, October 8, 2008

Title: Dynamics and Trends of malaria in relation to anopheline mosquitoes Ecology, Distribution and kdr resistance in a hydropower dam area of Southwestern Ethiopia Malaria is a major health problem. Anopheles arabiensis is the major malaria vector  provide data on the trends and dynamics of malaria transmission in relation to anopheline vector mosquito ecology, abundance and spatio-temporal distribution in Gilgel-Gibe area.

Title: Dynamics and Trends of malaria in relation to anopheline mosquitoes Ecology, Distribution and kdr resistance in a hydropower dam area of Southwestern Ethiopia The prevention of malaria in Southwestern Ethiopia has relied mainly on early diagnosis and treatment of infection and reduction of human-vector contact by indoor residual spraying (IRS) or insecticide treated bed nets (ITNs).  provide data on whether the mosquito populations of Southwestern Ethiopia develop resistance against insecticides and the existence of detect kdr mutation.

Title: Dynamics and Trends of malaria in relation to anopheline mosquitoes Ecology, Distribution and kdr resistance in a hydropower dam area of Southwestern Ethiopia General objective: To assess the influence of the dam on the ecology, distribution and kdr resistance of anopheline mosquitoes in relation to malaria incidence in the study area

Title: Dynamics and Trends of malaria in relation to anopheline mosquitoes Ecology, Distribution and kdr resistance in a hydropower dam area of Southwestern Ethiopia Visits still planned ending March, 2009 Delenasaw will stay in Belgium from Dec. 15, 2008 to March 30, 2009 Activities carried out/Achievements Surveys: Baseline and Incidence set up and followed up Paper submitted New proposals generated (e.g. Omo Valley

Title: Dynamics and Trends of malaria in relation to anopheline mosquitoes Ecology, Distribution and kdr resistance in a hydropower dam area of Southwestern Ethiopia Plan for AP 2009 Continue Surveys: Baseline and Incidence set up and followed up Studies about larval habitats Niko Speybroeck and Wim Van Bortel will respectively stay for 2 weeks and 1 week in JIMMA between July and October 2009 (exact dates to be determined)
