3 ‘Millennial’ or ‘Digital Native Student’ Generation born between 1981- 2002 Socially Networked Team Oriented Multi-taskers Grew up with technology readily assessable (Elam, Stratton, & Gibson, 2007)

4 ‘Millennial’ or ‘Digital Native Student’ Like active learning and engagement in classroom (Wilson 2004) Have a preference for multi-media learning (Skiba 2007) Appreciate the use of teamwork, experiential activities and technology (McGlynn 2005)

5 Millennials & Technology Incorporation of technology into teaching by faculty is expected and desired (Wilson 2004) Have little patience with educational methods they see as outdated (Taylor 2007) Will use the internet as an academic resource and database for knowledge (Wilson 2004) Spent their entire lives surrounded by and using technology (Prensky 2001)

6 Why use ‘You Tube’ A social phenomenon that cannot be ignored by educators (Skiba 2007) You Tube is one of the fastest growing websites (Trier 2007) You Tube provides an opportunity for students to be creators not just viewers (Adam & Mowers 2007 and Skiba 2007) Can create learning communities, stimulate discussion, and provide a means for active learning (McGlynn 2005 and Skiba 2007)
