2  At the end of this workshop students will be able to: Define Risk Management and how it applies to their sport club members, facility, equipment, and events Identify at least 3 types of risk to be aware of when your sport club is active Explain at least 3 different ways to reduce risk in their Sport Club members, facility, equipment, and events Inform all members of their group regarding their Sport Club’s Emergency Action Plan.

3  The control of financial and personal injury loss from sudden, unforeseen, unusual accidents and intentional torts (Ammon, 1993)  A management strategy to increase control over legal uncertainty that may wreak havoc on a sport business (Wong & Masteralexis, 1998)  Reducing exposure to danger, harm, or hazards that lead to lawsuits (Mulrooney & Farmer, 1998)

4  Types of Risks Facility Event/Competition/Practice Travel  Activity 1 – RISKY SHOUT OUTS The categories listed above will be written on the dry-erase board. The group will shout out different risks in each category. (For example, one risk for facility may be a leaky roof that leads to water on the playing area).

12  Negligence-the omission to do something which a reasonable person would do, or doing something which a reasonable person would not do.  What is an example of Negligence?

25  Reducing Risk Write three ways in which a player, spectator, or entire club can reduce risk in a single sport.  Can be injury, facility, event, weather, travel, other related, etc…  Share one with group aloud.
