6 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 6 VISION Vision: › In 2013 Aarhus University has built up a successful International Summer University based on a mix of AU core research competences and specializations delivered by invited international guest lecturers. All Faculties at Aarhus University should be visible at AU Summer University in 2013. The intention is to: › attract international students › attract international lecturers and researchers › provide AU fulltime students with flexible study programmes and terms › enhance our international network and cooperation on several levels

7 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 7 VENUE AU Summer University takes place at AU Campus, University Park, Aarhus - Central food and lunch area - Teaching rooms closer together - Meeting point and help desk for international guest lecturers - Use of the park - Social programme for all international students

8 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 8 STRUCTURE The programme is divided into two terms in July and August 2011. All courses are 5 and 10 ECTS courses (5 ECTS courses have a minimum of 2 weeks teaching followed by 1 flexible week) (10 ECTS courses have a minimum of 3 weeks teaching followed by 1 flexible week). Students can only take one course in each term and a total amount of credits of 5,10,15 or 20 ECTS. In 2011 the weeks are: › 5 ECTS course term 1: week 27,28,29 › 5 ECTS course term 2: week 31,32,33 › 10 ECTS course term 1: week 27,28,29,30 › 10 ECTS course term 2: week 31,32,33,34

9 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 9 COURSES › Courses can either be interdisciplinary courses or specialized courses › All courses will be taught in English › Most courses are at the Master or PhD Level. Bachelor Level courses can also be part of the programme if the Faculty/Institute thinks that the topic will attract enough students › Courses can require prerequisite academic background decided by the Faculty/Institute › We advise you have courses approved by the respective Study board before marketing the course › We recommend that the exam is finished before the course ends

10 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 10 STUDENTS › The target group of students is AU full-time students, i nternational exchange students, international full-degree students and free movers. Moreover students from other Danish universities can take courses at AU Summer University. › There will be a centrally organized application platform and application deadline for students: The deadline is March 15th 2011. After the deadline AU fulltime students can still sign up for the courses.

11 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 11 TEACHERS › Teachers are partly AU teachers partly international guest teachers visiting on a short term contract to be terminated if the course does not attract enough students after the deadline is due. › There will be a centrally organized application platform and application deadline for international guest lecturers, which is a service offered by IC: The deadline is September 1st 2010. After the deadline applications will be distributed to the respective Faculty/Institutes. › We suggest that AU covers one economy return trip and pays a salary equivalent to teaching an 5/10 ECTS course on a regular basis (6000 EUR for 5 ECTS/8000 EUR for 10 ECTS including preparation, teaching, evaluating a retaking). The guest lecturer covers accommodation costs him-/herself

12 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 12 IC SERVICES › Centrally organized AU Summer University Website › Marketing service for internal and external marketing of AU Summer University (poster and postcards) › Centrally organized application form for students and guest teachers › Accommodation service for international students and guest teachers › Visa service for international students and guest teachers › Social programme during AU Summer University (excursions, guided tours and museum visits) › Booking of rooms, lunch possibilities and helpdesk during the event › General counselling on issues regarding international students and international guest teachers

Faculty/Institute › IC helps you set up and market AU Summer University. We also provide you with a set of service facilities for your teachers and students before, during and after the event. › The Faculty/Institute is responsible for all academically related decisions: Selections and invitation of lecturers, academic approval of students, course descriptions, literature etc. › Regarding the budget the Faculty/Institute pays for salary, travel, extra costs (if any) related to lecturers accommodation, teaching material and social events. The Faculty/Institute received the “STÅ” income related to the course. › We suggest you have one contact person and coordinator. › We expect you to deal with the IC deadlines suggested

14 AU SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2011 Dorte Føns, Head of AU Summer University International Centre AARHUS UNIVERSITY 14 DEADLINES › 15th June 2010 – indication on your use of IC service: International recruitment platform › 15th Sep. 2010 - indication on your use of IC service: Central application platform for students › 15th Sep. 2010 - indication of course, level, name, internal/external teaching › 1st Oct. 2010 – international guest lecturers selected and invited › 15th Oct. 2010 - course description ready for preapproval for the respective Study board › 15th Nov. 2010 – course description approved by the respective Study board › 1st Dec. 2010 - application form and courses ready for marketing 2011
