Concept Page The theme for this year’s Austcham Ball is “Great Southern Land”, which is a famous Australian song, and has been inspired by the deep history and diverse culture of Australia. Australia has something for everyone from the beach to the desert and we have tried to incorporate every aspect of this rich way of life. During the course of this evening the guests will be taken on a journey through some of the most famous areas of Australia and have a chance to become completely immersed in the way of life. Our aim is to thrill the guests by transporting those who are from Australia back home for one night, and those who have never been to a new and exciting other world

Registration THEME: Great Barrier Reef and Beach As the guests arrive they will be immediately transported into another time and place. Upon arrival the guests will be greeted at the registration area which will have a sand and surf theme. In keeping with this theme, the guests will then get their first opportunity of many to take a fun photograph. The photo opportunity at the registration area will include 2 live models dressed as lifeguards and a towering wave on the backdrop behind with a 3D shark’s head. This will give the guests a great memento to take home from the evening.

This area will be a mixture of beach and outback theme and will get another photo opportunity with another 3D board. 11 Ballroom Entry Tunnel: Outside THEME: Mining Tunnel The tunnel leading into the ballroom will have a mining tunnel entrance. This is in keeping with the theme for the event as a lot of Australia’s tradition and history is from the days when the occupation was one of the most fruitful. The entrance to the tunnel will have the walls of a mine and their will be lanterns, mining carts and canary cages along with tools and helmets to complete the fee of being in a real mine shaft.

Ballroom Entry Tunnel: Inside THEME: Cultural History The inside of the tunnel leading to the ballroom’s theme will be the cultural history of Australia the area will include some of the most amazing performers to come out of Australia among. This is a good way to get people reminiscing about some of the greatest moments in Australia’s history. This area will be a black cloth tunnel with LED’s behind. This set up will help the posters on the inside stand out better.

Staging Design THEME: Sydney Opera House We have decided to do the staging in the theme of one of the most iconic Australian landmarks : The Sydney Opera House. The stage would have a screen in the middle and the sides of the staging design would be in the style of the Opera House roof. To enhance the feel of being at the opera house we have suggested that the podium be set up to look like a Sydney ferry, with the MC dressed as ferry masters.

Local MC Option: Josh and Rick Richard and Joshua are mates from Healvesville, Australia who have ridden motorcycles through the Himalayan foothills, travelled Asia as Cricket Ambassadors, worked as male models in Morocco and most recently stormed China as contestants in The Amazing Race China Rush. Captivated by their experiences in China while on The Amazing Race, Richard is now a photographer in Shanghai and Joshua a host on ICS’s travel show Getaway. This two comedic characters are more than happy to dress up for the occasion will bring great energy to this event as MCs. Watch them Watch them in action on their audition video for The Amazing Race China Rush.

Australian MC Option: Matthew Barker As MC and presenter in many contexts, Matthew Barker has an impressive variety of talents that include character acting and facilitating at conferences and meetings. Matthew could MC in a number of Australian characters including Steve Irwin (croc hunter), Dame Edna (with a song, 'I Still Call Australia Home'), Molly Meldrum and "Norm" the Aussie yobbo (singlet, shorts, thongs, esky etc). His wife is also happy to travel to Shanghai and be a part of the ball as a roaming Aussie Sheila meeting guests.
