 Technology is constantly changing in today’s world; different technologies are available for various purposes.  Bionic Vision Australia in association with its academic partner University of New South Wales is responsible for development of Bionic Vision Technology.

 In simple words, bionic vision is technology which will help blind people see.  The development of bionic vision technology aims to restore the sense of vision to people living with blindness and low vision.

 The bionic vision system includes a camera which is attached to pair of glasses, which transmits radio signals to the microchip.

 The light that bypasses the damaged photoreceptors is created when the radio signals transmitted by pair of glasses is converted into electrical impulses by electrodes on the implanted chip.  These electrical impulses generated by the electrodes are then passed down along the optic nerve reaching the visual cortex of the brain where they are interpreted, where they are projected as an image.

 Bionic Vision technology will mainly be used for people suffering from inherited blindness and profound vision loss (age-related macular degeneration).  The bionic vision technology will not be available in all hospitals but only in few authorized hospitals.

 bionic vision does not require patient to go under complicated surgical procedure.  bionic vision is very early in the visual pathway.  Bionic vision also known as retina implant does not need any battery to be implanted with human body.

 There are axons between electrodes on implanted chip and ganglionic cells in the brain.  The cost of retina implant (bionic vision surgery) is expected higher compared to that of other eye surgeries.  Extra circuitry is required for downstream electrical input

 Other axons between electrodes get excited it causes large blur to the vision of person undergone surgery.  Not available to all hospitals

 bionic vision technology is better than other existing technologies as it can cure blindness easily  Compared to other technologies there is also less risk to human body
