1 COSMOS Key Questions for AGN Chris Impey and Jonathan Trump Steward Observatory Martin Elvis (CfA), John Huchra (CfA), Pat McCarthy (Carnegie), and Michael Westover (Harvard)

2 Deep, wide-field AGN survey, down to Seyfert luminosities at z ~ 3 Bolometric measures of activity from X-ray, optical, radio and IR data Proxy for measure of supermassive black hole mass from broad lines Statistical sensitivity to rare populations (obscured, BAL, etc) New measure of AGN clustering relative to galaxy large scale structure Environmental dependence of AGN luminosity and energy distributions Host galaxies morphologies measured out to z ~ 1 with ACS data Populations of high redshift (z > 4) quasars with superior statistics 3D tomography of the IGM using COS spectroscopy of brightest quasars COSMOS AGN Survey Science Goals
