Because you have had an unusual number of invalid login attempts on your account, we noticed that there might be some security problem on your account. HOW TO DEAL WITH SCAM EMAILS Although the message appears to be official, it is not. Your bank would never contact you in this way. The email has been written and sent to you by a criminal, not from your bank. This crime is called phishing. The location of the criminal is unknown. It could be from anywhere in the world. Notice how they make the messages sound as if it is to protect the security of your account. To worry you they also say your account will be suspended. The best thing to do with messages of this kind is delete them. If in doubt contact your bank and tell them what has happened. Online safety Money Works: Level 1 Topic 3 4

EMAIL SCAMS There are many variations on email scams. Most of them try to get you to give away personal information, often by claiming that you have won a prize (and they will need your bank details to send it to you!). Many originate overseas, or at least the email says that. Remember: If an offer looks too good to be true, it usually is! Never give out your personal information to a request made in this way. If you receive any letters or emails of this type, delete them or throw them away. Online safety Money Works: Level 1 Topic 3 5

PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER To protect your computer you should: Install anti-virus software. Install spyware removal software. Apply a spam filter (your email provider may offer this service). Use a firewall (included as part of some operating systems). Not store your password or PIN on your computer. Not write down your passwords or leave them where they can be found. Not save passwords on computers that are used by other people. Not use passwords which can be easily guessed, such as your middle name, date of birth etc. Never tell anyone else your password or PIN.
