SAT vocabulary and review unit – year long American Romanticism Unit American Romanticism movement, Transcedentalists, American Romantic hero, dark or black comedy Understanding analogies, mood, satire, literary criticism, imagery, metaphor, parable, paraphrase, paradox, allegory Understanding author’s purpose and philosophy 11th - 2-10, 12, 13, 15, 17-19, 21, 23, 26-30, 37, 33, 32, 34, 39, 42, 43, 44, 48, 53, 59 Weekly SAT reviews class discussion Oral presentation of historical event Short story or video – writing workshop – p. 284 Research – people involved in governmental change throughout history around the world – written/oral American Romanticism intro – textbook pg. 133-151; talk about quote 133 - have them research one event on the pages 134-137 and create a powerpoint slide to present it orally Look in library for Last of the Mohicans, other Edgar Allsn Poe movies that you could use From Self Reliance, Resistance to Civil Government, connected readings 210-224 – tie together – Use Blood Done Sign My Name DVD The Minister’s Black Veil (also in Interactive Reader if you want helps) - if you can find The Scarlett Letter DVD it might work well here – The Pit and the Pendulum (have the students create a new ending and have to act it out or act out what they are reading – could create a modern version in a video (end of chapters and stories have additional ideas that could be used or modified) Check in with the students on their senior projects – maybe give one class period every other week to organize and work on – see that they are all started on their field work
