Last lesson we looked at democracy and dictatorship. Draw on arrows [using autoshape] to match the words and the meanings.
Everyone has freedoms, and votes for the leaders.

2. In today’s lesson we are asking:

3. Highlight good ideas, bad ideas, mixed ideas.
I’m Karl Marx. I invented communism but I died before any country became communist.
I think the poor people of the world should fight the capitalists. This means the people who own the factories and banks. We can then share all the money out equally.
Being communist will mean:
- everyone works together
- everyone works at what they’re good at
- everyone is equal
everything will be shared equally, there will be no money
Highlight good ideas, bad ideas, mixed ideas.

4. Rather than everybody having their own clothes with some people having lots and some having only a few, everybody would be given the same.

5. Highlight good actions, bad actions, mixed actions.
I’m Lenin, I was the first leader of the first communist country – Russia.
I stopped us fighting in the First World War. Unfortunately, we lost lots of land.
Rich people are now called ‘former people’. Their money has been taken and they’re not allowed to work.
Women are equal to men.
All newspapers are banned. Anyone who argues with me is arrested.
All the land has been shared out to the peasants [poor people]
Highlight good actions, bad actions, mixed actions.

6. One rich man had his palace taken and he was forced to live in the bathroom.
What did rich people think of communism?
Rich people thought that Communism was… This was because…
Look back at the last slide. Who might have like communism?

7. Make a poster on Microsoft Publisher encouraging people to support Communism or to try to stop Communism.
You need to include a slogan – a short sentence telling people to support Communism or to try to stop Communism.
It is best if you invent your own slogan. However, if you are stuck, here are some possible slogans: ‘Support the Communists’ or ‘Stop the Communists’.
You need to include at least 3 good or 3 bad ideas about Communism.
Use the ideas you highlighted in this powerpoint.
You need to include pictures that show whether Communism was a good or bad idea.
Remember these don’t have to just be pictures about communism, as long as they show the good or bad points. For example my pictures about the man living in his bathroom.

8. EXTENSION: What is it like?
If communism was an animal, what would it be and why?
If communism was a football team, which one would it be and why?
Can you think of anything else that communism is like?
