9 Work history and experience are crucial. Once young people get a foot in their door they can stay in work, but this helps them get the foot in the door Training and qualifications are a pre-requisite. Employers use these to filter, so need to be job relevant and valued by employers Confidence looking for work is a crucial signal Young people are a diverse group. Other issues like caring responsibilities and health impact, as with other age groups

10 Case study: Scotland Our partnership has allowed our customers to access: Get Into. Short vocational courses designed with employers Development Awards. Micro grants to tackle barriers Enterprise. A four day course focused on starting a business Key lessons. When designed with employers, short training can work When there’s a good job prospect, young people will engage So far this has delivered: 10 out of 12 participants getting jobs with DHL 12 out of 12 gaining Apprenticeships with Arnold Clark

11 Case study: Birmingham Hypothesis that provision designed by young people for young people would be more successful: Youth Innovation Board. Giving young people a formal role in programme design Engagement mechanisms. Including focus groups, customer feedback etc So far this has delivered: ½ of 441 Initiate participants have progressed into further education and training 90% said the programme supported their progression Key lessons. Involving YP in design can work and change delivery

20 “The boxing was really good and when we toured Hotel Indigo, I was keen to have a go at everything,” he said. “I’ve been out of work for the past six months and I am really keen to get another job.
