2  Make sure you have a pencil and judging card ready o Don’t forget to include your full name!  You may take notes; your reasons class will be Class #4 – Crossbred Breeding Gilts o Write out your reasons and send them in with your scores  Remember there should be no talking! Janell (your host) is the official judge for this month’s tournament.

3  You are evaluating an animal against a common ideal.  The four steps to judging are: 1. Gather information 2. Observation 3. Comparison 4. Conclusion

24  Take the time now to write out your reasons for Class #4: Crossbred Breeding Gilts using your NOTES ONLY!  Reasons should: Present a logical, informative, exciting set of reasons that explain why you ranked the class the way you did.

25  Accuracy of your statement  Thoroughness of your explanation  Ability to emphasize most important differences between two animals (top pair, middle pair, bottom pair)  Diverse use of vocabulary (livestock, carcass, animal identification)  A logical order  Term variation  Avoid mixing numbers  Correct grammar  Proper eye contact  Correct posture

26  How did you do?  Did you feel confident in your placings? o Why or why not?  Did other 4-Hers have a different placing?  What were the reasons for different placings? o Do you agree or disagree with those reasons?

27  Send in your scorecard filled out with your name, club, and final placings and your written reasons. Your reasons score will be shared with your leader.  For next month familiarize yourself with judging sheep: o Parts of the animal o Favorable characteristics for Market Breeding o Undesirable characteristics for Market Breeding
