“And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.” Jeremiah 15:4

Every young heart should make a study of this man’s life –Learn the lesson…God cannot make as much out of a fraction of a life as He can with a whole! – Danger in giving God the “leftovers”! – Psa.71:5,17,18 –It exposes the lie of the false & easy conceptions of sin – Heb.3:13; Heb.11:25; Prov.13:15 –It brings home the truth that the only salvation that can mean the most is the salvation that comes from serving God from your youth! (Eccl.12:1ff)

His Life… 2 Kings 20:21-21:1-9,16 –Longest reign of any of Judean kings – 55 years –Most wicked king Judah ever had –An inexcusable life by reason of the opportunities he had… Son of a good father – Hezekiah (2 Kings 18-20) Repeated warnings – 2 Chron. 33:10 – “And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.” Guilt intensified by the fact he did not sin alone! He carried a kingdom with him! Cf. Rev.14:13

His Pay-Day…2 Kings 21:12-15 –“12 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle. 13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down. 14 And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies; 15 Because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.”

His Pay-Day…2 Chron.33:11 –“Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.”

His Pay-Day… His sins found him out! (Numbers 32:23) –So will yours – Pay-Day Coming! (Ac.17:30,31) –Ahab & Jezebel’s pay-day (1 Kings 21:19,23)

The Effect… –Depends on character – (2 Cor.2:15,16) some harden, bitter & rebellious – Pharaoh – Jesus & Pharisees – Stephen & Jews etc. –Not the case with Manasseh – it made him think…and pray… 2 Chron. 33:12,13a –“And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,13 And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication…”

The Effect… –Depends on character – (2 Cor.2:15,16) some harden, bitter & rebellious – Pharaoh – Jesus & Pharisees – Stephen & Jews etc. –Not the case with Manasseh – it made him think…and pray… 2 Chron. 33:12,13a –God forgave as He always does when truly repent & confess our transgressions – 1 Jno.1:9; 2 Pet.3:9; Heb.8:12

The Restoration… –“ …and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.” 2 Chron. 33:13b –Remaining years spent in faithful service to the Lord – 2 Chron.33:14-16 –Yet, the full influence of his life fell short… 2 Chron.33:17, 21-24

The Application… –Some things repentance/forgiveness won’t do –The consequence of sin – Gal.6:7,8 –It’s impact on others – Esau – Gen.25:34 – “…thus Esau despised his birthright.” (Heb.12:17) David – 2 Sam.11; Psalm 51

The Invitation… – “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” 2 Cor. 6:2 –And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Josh. 24:15
