2. Random Student Drug Testing Three-year federal grant for $441,587 that provided for the random drug testing of high school students in GPISD When tested positive for drugs in their systems, students were referred for counseling and follow-up drug testing Ended in December 2011

3. District Award for Teaching Excellence (D.A.T.E. Grant) Ended February 2012; TEA grant for $1,520,579 Targeted Math and Science instruction Included monetary awards to math and science teachers/support personnel in the areas of Special Education and Bilingual Education and campus administrators who serve Grades 5-12 Also included Staff Development for Math and Science Program was drastically cut by the State Legislature in the last round of public school funding cuts, and now includes a very small number of districts state-wide at very low funding levels

4. Statewide Tools for Teaching Excellence Grant Three-year TEA/Michael & Susan Dell Foundation grant for $810,000 that funded our participation in the project Project focused on the creation of data dashboard to quickly and effectively analyze student and school data MSDF continues to fund the project’s Data Manager position with a private foundation grant for $184,500 over a three- year period that will continue until August 2014

5. Advanced Placement Grant Three-year federal grant for $466,069 that supports the Advanced Placement program at both high schools Provides after-school and Saturday tutorials for AP students Provides incentives for students scoring a 3, 4 or 5 on each AP test they take Funds AP staff development Ends in December 2012

College Readiness Initiatives for Middle School Students (CRIMSS) 2-year grant from TEA (2010-11 and 2011-12) Four participating middle schools Cunningham MS ($150,000) North Shore MS ($150,000) Galena Park MS ($150,000) Woodland Acres ($114,800) Focus on seventh- and eighth-gradeELA and Mathematics, College Readiness, and Staff Development Ending August 2012

7. Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Three-year (2011-2013) federal grant awarded in September 2011 for $304,000 Purpose of the grant is to: Further implement the National Incident Management System (NIMS), providing quality training to district and campus administrators Review and revise district, campus, and facility emergency operations plans and secure emergency equipment Conduct building and facilities audits and other vulnerability assessments

REMS, continued Improve and conduct additional drills and tabletop simulation exercises and providing safety and security training to campus and district staff Improve systems to communicate emergency response policies and procedures to parents and guardians Improve and expand our infectious disease plans Develop our food defense plans Expand Continuity of Operations planning

HCDE CASE Partnership Grant Yearly grant through Harris County Department of Education that was funded at $58,150 this year Application submitted for continued funding for next year Provides after-school academic and enrichment programming for students enrolled at Pyburn Elementary Requires day-care licensure from the State of Texas

10. 21 st CCLC Programs Programs provide after-school academic and enrichment activities, and are competitive grant-funded. Attendance and high-quality programming are cornerstones of these programs. Galena Park ISD currently hosts 21 st CCLC programs at seven of our schools. North Shore Elementary - Cycle 6, Year 3 is the current year. Funding for next year is reduced by 25%. This year’s funding: $121,800. Next year’s funding: $91,350. Year 5 funding will reduce by another 25%. This program is operated in conjunction with the Harris County Department of Education.

11. 21 st CCLC Programs, continued Galena Park High School also offers a 21 st CCLC program. It is a Cycle 7 program, and this is its first year of operation. It is expected to be a five-year grant, with no reduction in funding throughout the grant term. It is funded at $138,813, passed through the Harris County Department of Education. Communities in Schools, through an agreement with Galena Park ISD, operates 21 st CCLC programs at five other district sites: Cobb 6 th Grade Campus, North Shore Middle School, Cunningham Middle School, Galena Park Middle School, and Cloverleaf Elementary School. The budgets for these programs are administered by CIS.
