WOODHOUSE COLLEGE CENTRE NO. 12290 SUMMER 2011 PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS

EXAM REGULATIONS AND ADVICE TO HELP ENSURE EVERYTHING RUNS SMOOTHLY FOR YOU ON THE DAY

BEFORE THE EXAM

Remember that it is your responsibility to have read and understood the JCQ rules and regulations regarding exams. This information is available on Woodle and also on the exams notice board.

IT IS VITAL THAT YOU CHECK YOUR TIMETABLE THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR EXAM! If you turn up very late for your exam, that is, after the exam has finished, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SIT THE EXAM. THIS MAY MEAN THAT YOU WILL NOT BE AWARDED A FINAL GRADE!

REMEMBER! UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD OTHERWISE (AM) EXAMS START AT 09.00 (PM) EXAMS START AT 1.30 If you arrive half an hour or more after the start of your exam, you must see the exams officer first and a decision will be made on whether you will be allowed into the exam room. There is no guarantee that the exam board will mark your paper.

Clashes Be aware If you have had a timetable change due to an exam clash and a morning exam has been moved to the afternoon and you are more than half an hour late in the morning, the exam that has been rescheduled for the afternoon also may not be marked by the exam board.

DO Aim to arrive at college at least half an hour before the start of your exam Check the notice boards in the social area for exam venues and seat number. Be ready to go into the exam room 15 minutes before official starting time (there are usually several announcements that need to be made) SWITCH MOBILES OFF Have College ID ready to show to the invigilator Have your personal timetable Bring transparent pencil cases

Spare pens/pencils/erasers/calculator with lid removed Remove labels from bottles of water Clear plastic bottles only ‘Clash students’ should have lunch/snack/drinks/revision books in their bags to take from their exam to isolation room and should leave their mobile in the Main Office on arrival at college

IN THE EXAM ROOM

DO Enter exam room quietly Leave bags at front of venue or where directed Inform exams officer/invigilator if you are unwell or have had a recent trauma For exams in sports hall/main hall, put your mobile in the tray at the front of the row that you will be sitting in. Make sure beforehand that your phone is easily identifiable as it is likely that others will have the same phone as you! LISTEN CAREFULLY TO INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT Talk to any other student Have anything on or by your desk that is a forbidden item Put anything on back of chair – it will be removed Wear hats/gloves – you will be told to remove them

FORBIDDEN ITEMS Mobile phones Calculators with covers Pencil cases (except clear pencil cases) Baseball caps Personal organisers Personal stereos/MP3 players Other electronic devices Unauthorised notes or written materials Dictionaries (unless specified) Bags and coats (should be left at the front or the back of the exam room)

Where the use of calculators is allowed in examinations, the following regulations must be followed: The calculator must be of a size suitable for use on the exam desks Calculator cases, instruction leaflets or instructions and formulae printed on the lid or cover must not be in possession of candidates during the examination (where instructions cannot be removed they should be securely covered) Calculators with the following facilities are prohibited: data banks dictionaries language translators retrieval of text or formulae QWERTY keyboards capability of remote communication with other machines or the World Wide Web

WARNING! Having a mobile, any electronic device or revision notes on you will have serious consequences. The least penalty that you will receive is ZERO MARKS for your paper. You may be disqualified from the entire subject. You will not receive an overall subject grade. Any other evidence of cheating will have the same results!

TRIPS TO THE TOILET!! You will not be allowed to leave the exam room in the first hour of your exam. If you have more than one exam in a session you will be able to have a toilet break between exams but you should be respectful of others that may still be working.

FIRE ALARM If the fire alarm should go off during your exam, you must stop writing, remain silent and wait for instructions from the invigilator. If you are asked to evacuate the room, you must leave your script face down on your desk. Do not collect your belongings and do not talk to anyone. If it is safe to allow you back into the exam room and the security of the exam paper has not been compromised, you will be given the full remaining time allowance.

AT THE END OF YOUR EXAM Check that all details have been entered on front of exam paper and on any additional paper. Attach additional paper with a treasury tag Remain seated in silence until you are told that you can go If you are being supervised because of a clash, you will be escorted from the exam room to your isolation area
